System tools

The three built-in tools every agent has, their controls, and how enabling and describing them works.

Every agent is born with three system tools, switched off until you switch one on. You do not create them and you cannot delete them. Look here for their keys, their controls, and the way their descriptions are set.

The three tools

Key Portal label What it is for
web_search Web search Looking something up online during a conversation
dialect_detection Dialect detection Recognising the caller's Arabic dialect and adapting to it
end_conversation End conversation Letting the agent close the conversation itself

The cards appear in that order in Built-in tools on the agent's Tools tab. Each tool has its own page with the detail: Web search, Dialect detection and End conversation.

Turning one on

On the agent's Tools tab, each card in Built-in tools carries a toggle and a settings button. The toggle switches the tool on or off on its own. The settings button opens a dialog headed with the tool's name and the line "Enable this tool and describe how the agent should use it." It holds the same toggle, a Description box with the placeholder "Describe when the agent should use this tool", and, once you have saved your own text, a Reset to default button. Cancel discards, Save writes.

Any member of the workspace can change built-in tool settings. Saving text in the Description box marks the description as your own; the card toggle changes the switch only, so flipping a tool off and on again never loses your text.

Settings

Every built-in tool runs with interruption suppression off: a caller can speak over the agent while the tool is running and be heard. There is no control for it in the portal today. The Built-in tools dialog edits the toggle and Description.

What each system tool carries

The agent's tools view returns these five fields per system tool.

Field Meaning
key One of the three keys
enabled Whether the agent may call the tool
description The text the agent reads to decide when to call it. null until stock wording or your own wording exists
config Interruption suppression, off for every tool
customized The fields you have edited. Only description can appear here

A new agent starts with one entry per key, enabled at false, no settings, and the stock wording for that key at the moment the agent was created. When a key has no stock wording, the description starts empty.

Descriptions

The description is the only text the agent gets about a system tool, so it decides when the tool fires. The agent reads your wording when you have written some, and the current stock wording when you have not.

Stock wording is maintained for you and is not edited in the portal. It can change, and when it does, the new text reaches every agent whose description you have not edited yourself. An agent where you wrote your own text keeps it.

Reset to default drops your wording and puts the current stock wording back. When a key has no stock wording, it clears the description instead.

Get it right

Write the description for the agent, not for a colleague. Name the situations you want the tool used in and the conditions that have to hold first, because the agent has nothing else to go on.

Use this only for prices, opening hours and availability on our public website,
and only when the caller asks for something the knowledge base does not answer.

Errors

Message When What to do
Could not update tool The save failed. The toast carries the reason underneath, and the card returns to its previous state Try again

When a change takes effect

Each save applies to the next conversation the agent starts. A conversation already running keeps the state it started with.

FAQ

Can I delete a system tool I do not use?

No, and you do not need to. A system tool that is switched off is not offered to the agent at all.

Will my own description ever be overwritten?

No. Once you save your own wording, the agent keeps it. Press Reset to default if you want the stock wording back.

Does switching a tool off and on again lose my description?

No. The card toggle changes the switch only.

Who in my workspace can change these?

Any member of the workspace can change built-in tool settings.

Do system tools cost anything to leave switched on?

Leaving one on costs nothing by itself. A conversation is charged for its turns whether or not a tool was called; see What a turn costs.
