Account and billing
Pay and manage your payment method
Choose Stripe, Paymob or PayPal at checkout, pay inside the page or on PayPal, update the card behind your subscription, and know what happens to your access when a payment fails.
A subscription is paid with the method you pick at checkout, and every later charge on it, renewals, upgrades and auto top-ups alike, uses that same method. When you finish this page you will have paid for a plan, know where to update the card behind it, and know exactly what a failed renewal does to your access and by when you must act.
What you need
- The Owner role.
- A plan chosen on the Subscription page with Select Plan; see Choose or change your plan.
- A card, or a PayPal account.
Steps
Step 1: Choose a method on the checkout page
The checkout page opens after Select Plan, headed Complete Your Purchase. The right card, Order Summary, sums up the order; the left card, Choose Payment Method, offers up to three tabs, depending on what the plan supports:
| Tab | How you pay | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Pay by card with Stripe: a card form loads inside the page under Loading payment form... | On the checkout page |
| Paymob | Pay by card with Paymob: fill the card form on the page and press Pay Now | On the checkout page |
| PayPal | Pay Now turns to Redirecting... and you approve the payment on PayPal | On PayPal, then back to the portal |
Under the form, Payment secured by names the provider of the selected tab. Switching tabs discards the form you started. Paymob keeps your card to pay renewals, plan changes and auto top ups; you can remove it at any time on Manage billing.
Step 2: Pay by card
- On Stripe, wait for the form to replace Loading payment form....
- Fill in the card details and submit the form; on Paymob, press Pay Now once the card details are valid.
- The portal opens the Subscription page with a dialog reading Processing Your Payment... and Please wait while we securely process your transaction. Do not close this window or refresh.
- The dialog turns to Payment Successful! with You now have N Credits; click Go to home page.
The card stays on file for renewals, plan changes and auto top up.
Step 3: Pay with PayPal
- Select the PayPal tab and click Pay Now.
- Approve the payment on PayPal. It returns you to the Subscription page with the same Processing Your Payment... dialog, then Payment Successful!.
- If you leave PayPal without approving, the Subscription page opens with a dialog titled Payment Failed: We couldn't process your payment. Please check your card details or try another payment method. Click Try Again to reopen checkout on the same method, Change Payment Method to reopen it on the other one, or close the dialog to stay on the Subscription page.
A subscription paid with PayPal is sent back to PayPal to approve every plan change, cannot be reactivated after a cancellation, and cannot use auto top up.
Step 4: Pay for a top-up
Add More Credits uses the subscription's method without asking. The card form opens inside the Add More Credits dialog; Back returns to the amount. PayPal shows Taking you to PayPal…, leaves the page and comes back to a Credits added dialog. On a trial, which has no payment method, the dialog offers Pay with Stripe, Paymob or PayPal for that purchase alone; the choice does not attach a method to the trial.
If you leave PayPal without paying for a top-up, the Subscription page opens with no dialog and nothing is bought.
Step 5: Update the card
Click Billing Information on the Subscription page, then Update in the Manage your billing panel.
| Your subscription | What opens |
|---|---|
| Paid by card with Stripe | Your billing page with the payment provider, in the same tab. It returns you to the Subscription page |
| Paid by card with Paymob | The portal's own billing page, where the saved card is managed |
| Paid with PayPal | Your PayPal automatic payments page, in the same tab |
| A trial | Nothing; a trial has no payment method to manage |
The card auto top up charges is the one shown in the Auto top up dialog as Card on file: with the brand and the last four digits. After you change the card on the billing page, that line follows.
Step 6: Act on a failed renewal
When a renewal cannot be collected, the owner receives a Payment failed notification reading We could not collect your latest subscription invoice. Update your payment method to avoid losing access. From that moment:
| Time after the Next billing date | Portal | API keys |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 7 days | Works with the plan credits and any extra credits | Every request is refused with 403 Subscription expired or inactive |
| After 7 days, within the hour | The subscription is expired: the plan credits end, basic limits apply, extra credits still work, and the plan cards read Select Plan | Refused until you subscribe again |
Open Manage your billing and update the card within those 7 days; the retried payment then activates the subscription again and the owner receives Subscription renewed. Choosing a plan with Select Plan while a payment is being retried starts a second purchase; update the card instead.
Worked example
You are on a trial and click Select Plan on a card that reads Growth and 3M credits every month, with Monthly selected. The checkout page reads Subscribe to Growth, Renewing at the price per month, Subtotal, Total due today and Billed monthly - Cancel anytime. The left card shows its tabs. You stay on Stripe, wait for the form, fill it in and submit.
The Subscription page opens under Processing Your Payment..., then Payment Successful! and You now have 1,000 Credits. You click Go to home page. The plan card at the bottom of the sidebar now shows the plan's name.
Eight months later the card expires. On the Next billing date the bell
shows Payment failed. You open Subscription & billing, click
Manage your billing, replace the card on the billing page and return.
Once the retried payment is collected, the bell shows Subscription
renewed and the Credit balance card shows the new month's credits. An automation that
ran on an API key in between logged 403 Subscription expired or inactive
and works again from the renewal.
What happens next
After Payment Successful!, the Subscription page reads Billed monthly or Billed yearly with the price and Next billing date:, and the plan credits are granted. Renewals are charged to the same method on each Next billing date; a successful one resets the plan credits and sends the owner Subscription renewed. The dialog reads Almost there instead of Payment Successful! when activation takes longer than about 12 seconds; reload the Subscription page after a moment.
Limits
| Limit | Value | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Methods per subscription | One, chosen at checkout and used for every later charge | Paid subscriptions |
| Changing the card | On the billing page behind Manage your billing | Subscriptions paid by card |
| Auto top up | Subscriptions paid by card only | Every workspace |
| Reactivation after cancel | Subscriptions paid by card only, before the period ends | Canceled subscriptions |
| Time to fix a failed renewal | 7 days after the Next billing date, then expired within the hour | Paid subscriptions |
| API access while a renewal is retried | Refused with 403 Subscription expired or inactive |
Every API key of the workspace |
| Who can pay or update the method | Owner | Every workspace |
Troubleshooting
Loading payment form... does not end
The card form could not be created. The page reads Failed to load payment form. or Checkout response did not include a client secret. under the form area. Click Back to plans, then Select Plan again.
Payment Failed
You returned from PayPal without an approved payment. Try Again reopens checkout on PayPal; Change Payment Method reopens it on another method.
Confirmation failed
The success dialog reads Could not confirm your subscription. Please try again. when the payment could not be matched to your workspace. Click Go to Subscription; if the page still shows the old plan after a reload, contact support with the time of the payment.
This page needs a valid payment reference. Return to subscription and start checkout again.
The success page was opened without a payment behind it, for example from a bookmark. Start from Select Plan again.
Could not open billing
Manage your billing could not open the billing page. The toast carries the reason when there is one; No payment provider linked to this subscription yet means the subscription has no method, as on a trial.
Could not confirm your credit purchase.
The full text reads If you were charged, the credits will appear within a few minutes; otherwise try again. Reload the Subscription page after a few minutes before buying again.
FAQ
Can I change from one method to the other after subscribing?
No. The method is fixed for the life of the subscription. To move between Stripe, Paymob and PayPal, cancel and, once the period has ended, subscribe again with the other one.
Does a plan change ask for the card again?
Not on a subscription paid by card: an upgrade is charged to the card on file. A subscription paid with PayPal is sent to PayPal to approve the new plan.
Where do I see which card is on file?
In the Auto top up dialog, as Card on file: with the brand and the last four digits, on a subscription paid by card. Everything else about the card is on the billing page behind Manage your billing.
Is a failed top-up charged?
A card refused inside the Add More Credits form is not charged and no credits are added. An auto top up that fails counts toward the three failures after which auto top up switches itself off.
What does the 403 on my API key mean during a failed renewal?
Keys work only while the subscription is active or on trial. The portal keeps working through the 7-day window; the API does not. Update the card and the keys work again as soon as the renewal is collected.
